How to convert JPG to WebP

  1. Drop your JPG photos into the box.
  2. WebP is already selected. Quality 80–90 is a good choice for websites.
  3. Download the WebP files one by one or as a .zip.

Why use WebP on a website?

Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page. WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPGs of the same visual quality, so pages load faster, use less mobile data and score better in Google PageSpeed Insights, which literally suggests "serve images in next-gen formats". Every current browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge — supports WebP.

Does WebP work in WordPress, Shopify and Wix?

Yes. WordPress accepts WebP uploads since version 5.8, and Shopify, Squarespace and Wix accept them too. Some email clients and older desktop programs still cannot open WebP, so for email attachments JPG remains the safer choice.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller is WebP than JPG?

Do all browsers support WebP?

Yes. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (since iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur) all display WebP.

Can I convert PNG to WebP here too?

Yes. PNG, AVIF, GIF and BMP files are accepted as well; see also the PNG to WebP page.
