How to get a ChatGPT table into Excel
- In ChatGPT, click the copy icon under the answer (or select just the table and press Ctrl+C).
- Paste it into the box above. Every table in the answer shows up on the right.
- Click Download Excel (.xlsx). Prefer Google Sheets? Click Copy for Sheets and paste into any sheet.
Why not paste straight into Excel?
Sometimes that works — and often it doesn't: the whole table lands in one column, Markdown pipes (|) and
**bold** markers come along, or numbers like $1,250.00 and 12% arrive as text, so
SUM and charts don't work. This converter reads the table structure ChatGPT actually produces and writes
a proper spreadsheet.
What you get
- One sheet per table, named after the heading above it (or all tables on one sheet, if you prefer).
- Real numbers: 1,250 becomes 1250, 12.5% becomes a percentage, $4.99, €9.80 and £15 become currency values — ready for formulas and charts.
- A bold header row that stays visible when you scroll, with a filter on every column.
- Columns wide enough to read, and line breaks inside cells kept.
- Values that only look like numbers stay text: order numbers like 007, long IDs, dates and versions.
Untick Convert numbers to keep every cell exactly as written.
Tips for better tables from ChatGPT
- Ask for it explicitly: "Put this in a table with columns for …".
- Ask ChatGPT to "use plain numbers without units in the cells" if you want to calculate with them, and put the unit in the header.
- Several tables in one answer are fine: each gets its own sheet.

Any AI answer with a Markdown table works, as do tables copied from a web page (tab-separated text). Need the whole answer as a document? Use ChatGPT to Word or turn it into slides with ChatGPT to PowerPoint.

Frequently asked questions
How do I export a table from ChatGPT to Excel?
Copy the answer, paste it into the box on this page and click Download Excel. Each table becomes a sheet with real numbers.
Are numbers and percentages converted?
Yes. Values such as 1,250, 12.5% and $4.99 become real numbers with the right format, so formulas and charts work.
What if the answer has several tables?
Each table gets its own sheet, named after the heading above it. You can also put them all on one sheet.
Does it work with Google Sheets?
Yes. Click Copy for Sheets and paste into Google Sheets, or upload the .xlsx file to Google Drive.
Can I get a CSV file instead?
Yes. Click CSV to download the tables as a comma-separated file.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The spreadsheet is created in your browser; nothing leaves your device.
