How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Drop your .heic or .heif photos into the box (or click to choose them).
  2. PNG is already selected as the output format.
  3. Download each PNG, or all of them at once as a .zip.

HEIC to PNG or HEIC to JPG?

Both work everywhere, but they are made for different jobs:

Rule of thumb: PNG to work on, JPG to send.

Why are my PNG files so big?

HEIC uses modern video-style compression (HEVC) that is about twice as efficient as JPG. PNG uses no lossy compression at all, so a photo — with millions of slightly different colours — simply takes more space. That is normal and it is the price of zero quality loss. If size matters, run the PNGs through Compress Image or resize them first.

Does PNG keep transparency and HDR?

iPhone photos have no transparent areas, so the PNG will be fully opaque. The bright HDR highlights of newer iPhones are tone-mapped to a normal (SDR) image, which is what every screen, editor and printer expects.

Private by design

The conversion runs on your own device using libheif compiled to WebAssembly. Your photos are never uploaded to a server — you can even switch on airplane mode after the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is HEIC to PNG conversion lossless?

Yes. Once the HEIC photo is decoded, every pixel is stored unchanged in the PNG. Nothing is re-compressed with loss.

Why is the PNG much larger than the HEIC file?

HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression, PNG stores pixels losslessly. A photo PNG is typically 3 to 6 times larger than the original HEIC.

Can I convert many HEIC photos to PNG at once?

Yes. Drop up to 50 photos at a time and download them all together as a .zip file.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The converter runs entirely in your browser; your photos never leave your device.

Does it work on Windows without the HEIF extension?

Yes. The HEIC decoder is built into the page, so you do not need the Microsoft HEIF or HEVC extensions or any other software.

Runs entirely in your browser, powered by libheif (WebAssembly). Updated October 2026.
