How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop your .jpg, .jpeg or .jfif files into the box.
- PNG is already selected as the output.
- Download the PNG files, or all of them as a .zip.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
- Editing without more loss. Every time a JPG is saved again it is re-compressed and loses a bit of detail. A PNG can be edited and saved as often as you like without degrading.
- A site or app requires PNG. Some upload forms, print shops, design tools and game engines only accept PNG.
- .jfif files that will not open. Windows often saves downloaded images as .jfif; converting to PNG (or re-saving as JPG) makes them open everywhere.
Does it make the image better?
No — and it is good to know this before you convert. The PNG stores exactly what is in the JPG, including any compression artefacts that are already there. It stops the quality from getting worse, but it cannot bring back detail the JPG has already lost. The file will also be larger, usually 2–5 times.
Can I get a transparent background?
PNG supports transparency, but a JPG has none to keep: the background stays as it is (often white). To remove a background you need an editor or a background-removal tool after converting. For logos you want as a sharp, scalable file, try PNG to SVG.
Private by design
Your photos are converted by your browser on your own device. They are never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.
Frequently asked questions
Is JPG to PNG conversion lossless?
The conversion itself adds no loss: every pixel of the JPG is stored unchanged in the PNG. Artefacts already in the JPG remain.
Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG compresses losslessly, which is much less efficient for photos. Two to five times larger is normal.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG contains no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same (usually white) background.
Can I convert JFIF files?
Yes. .jfif is just a JPG with another extension and converts like any JPG.
Is it free and private?
Yes. There is no limit, no sign-up and no watermark, and your images never leave your device.
