How to convert PNG to WebP
- Drop one or more PNG files into the box.
- WebP is already selected. Pick a quality (85 is a good default).
- Download the WebP files or all of them as a .zip.
Transparency is kept
Unlike JPG, WebP supports an alpha channel. Logos, icons, product cut-outs and stickers keep their transparent background — including soft, anti-aliased edges — so they still sit cleanly on any page colour.
How much smaller will it be?
That depends on the image:
- Photos saved as PNG — often 80–90% smaller as WebP, because PNG is a poor format for photos.
- Screenshots and UI graphics — typically 50–70% smaller.
- Tiny icons with few colours — small gains; a well-optimised PNG can already be close. For those, try Compress Image, which optimises PNGs losslessly.
Is WebP right for every case?
For websites, yes. For print, editing and email attachments keep a PNG, since not every program opens WebP. Need a logo that scales to any size? PNG to SVG turns it into a vector.
Private by design
Conversion happens with your browser's own WebP encoder. Nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Does PNG to WebP keep the transparent background?
Yes. WebP has an alpha channel, so transparency and soft edges are kept.
Is the conversion lossless?
At quality 100 the result is close to lossless; lower qualities make much smaller files with a small, usually invisible, loss.
Why is my WebP barely smaller?
Simple graphics with few colours are already efficient as PNG. The big savings come from photos and screenshots.
Can I convert many PNGs at once?
Yes, up to 50 at a time, downloaded together as a .zip.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
