How to make a contact QR code
- Fill in the details you want to share. Only a name (or company) is required; leave the rest empty if you like.
- Download the code as PNG, or as SVG for your business card designer.
- Scan it with your own phone to check that the contact looks right.
What is a vCard?
A vCard is the standard format phones and email programs use for contact cards (.vcf files). This QR code
contains a vCard 3.0 with your details, which iPhone, Android, Outlook and Google Contacts all understand. Scanning it opens
a "new contact" screen with everything already filled in.
Tips for business cards
- Less is more: every extra field makes the code denser. Name, phone, email and website are usually enough.
- Print the code at least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 in) and keep the white border around it.
- Use the international format for your phone number (
+1 555…,+44 20…), so it works from abroad. - Put a short line next to the code, like "Scan to save my contact" — people are more likely to scan when they know what happens.
Other uses
- Name badges at conferences and trade fairs.
- Email signatures and the last slide of a presentation.
- Shop windows, vans and flyers ("save our number").
Need a code for a link or Wi-Fi instead? Use the QR code generator or the Wi-Fi QR code generator.
Private by design
The QR code is made in your browser. Nothing you type — links, passwords, phone numbers — is sent to a server or stored.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when someone scans a vCard QR code?
The phone shows a new contact with your details filled in, and the person can save it with one tap.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Both read vCard QR codes with the built-in camera app.
Which details can I include?
First and last name, company, job title, phone, email, website and address.
Why is my code so dense?
Every character adds data. Leave out fields you do not need, and the code gets simpler and easier to scan.
Is my contact information uploaded?
No. The code is created in your browser and nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
